6 Reasons why Family Photography Is So Important

Often, the idea of having family photos crosses our minds, yet it can be challenging to turn this thought into reality due to various excuses we conjure. Busy schedules, wardrobe concerns, and self-image perceptions can hinder us. However, the pursuit of perfection should not be the goal; authenticity should be embraced. Each family possesses unique dynamics, and the beauty lies in capturing genuine moments. These captured images weave a narrative far more precious than any perceived flaw. In 10 years time you will be so happy, you took the leap and captured your precious moments.

1. Documenting Growth and Celebrating Milestones

Family photos serve as a wonderful medium for documenting significant life events. Celebrating milestones is a common motive for families seeking professional photoshoots. Whether it's the anticipation of a new family member during maternity, the joy of welcoming a newborn, the excitement of baby milestones, or using photos to announce important family news, these occasions hold immense value. Each milestone is a chapter in your family's story, and a professional family photoshoot captures these moments meaningfully, creating a treasure trove of memories to be cherished across generations.

2. Boosting Self-Esteem

Incorporating family photographs into your home environment has a profound impact on the mental and emotional well-being of children. Displaying these images prominently sends a powerful message of belonging and love, fostering emotional security and overall well-being. The images themselves trigger memories of joyous times spent together, offering a sense of continuity and stability. During challenging periods, these photographs provide emotional solace, creating a feeling of support even when family members are physically distant. The images' positive associations contribute to a child's overall mood and attitude, promoting a healthy emotional foundation.

3. Including the Whole Family in One Frame

A common scenario involves parents capturing beautiful moments behind the camera but being absent from the images. The desire to be part of these memories is important. The objective extends beyond simply having photos; it's about capturing moments that reflect the love, connection, and shared experiences unique to your family. By participating in these memories and preserving them, you infuse your family with joy and nostalgia for years to come.

4. Enhancing the Quality of Photographs

The decision to enlist a professional photographer for family photoshoots holds considerable merit. Their honed skills, honed through years of training and practice, result in visually captivating images. Mastery of composition, lighting, angles, and camera settings contributes to stunning visuals. Understanding the significance of lighting and its manipulation, professionals highlight subjects' best features. Their ability to create a relaxed atmosphere ensures natural and genuine expressions. Guiding posing and interactions eases discomfort in front of the camera, capturing candid moments that reflect your family's dynamics. Equipped with superior equipment, professional photographers bring depth and artistry to your family's visual narrative.

5. Family Reunions

In an era of globalization and widespread movement, extended families often find themselves spread across various corners of the world. During the rare convergence of these dispersed family members, a professional photoshoot captures the significance of the occasion and fortifies family bonds.

6. Passing on to the Next Generation

Family photographs embody the family's identity, encapsulating a moment in time that resonates across generations. These images establish connections between ancestors and descendants, fostering a sense of continuity. Notably, they serve as cherished gifts for grandparents, enabling them to relish and showcase the love and connections within their family.

In summary… Family photography is a way to freeze time and capture the love, connections, and stories that make your family unique. It's an investment in preserving the moments that matter most and in creating a visual legacy that will be treasured by both current and future generations.

Leighton Beach Perth Maternity Photography

Leighton beach Perth is one of my top pics for family and maternity photography in Perth. It’s extensive white sands and great dunes at the back which create the perfect back drop for beautiful family photos. This Maternity session was just magical. Being able to capture such a precious time in a mother/couples lives…. their first baby!! The last moments of it being just the two of them, and all of the excitement and anticipation. Much love Sara x

City Beach Family Photography

City beach is one of my favourite beaches to shoot Family, Maternity and Newborn photography in Perth, as there is so much natural beauty. Tall grass and sand dunes and beautiful endless white sand. When I met this little family I knew instantly we would have so much fun. They were open to any suggestions and together we created some beautiful, relaxed, unposed moments. there was so much love and fun to capture. I feel so lucky to meet to many beautiful clients and get to know then on our sessions.

Perth Family photography at Raeburn Orchards

It was such an absolute pleasure to hold my first mini sessions here at the Raeburn Orchards Roleystone.

Located only 30km from the Perth CBD, Raeburn Orchards is a wonderful day trip with the family. You will make your way through the picturesque Perth hills to arrive here at this idyllic location.  An added bonus on arrival is there is also a gorgeous shop with all kinds of lovely treats and gift ideas and a yummy coffee shop to indulge before you head into the orchards.

When is the best time to have a family session at the Raeburn Orchards?

The orchards are genuinely beautiful all year round but my two favourite times of the year are….

1.      In spring, when the fruit trees are blossoming, stunning white and pink blossoms are everywhere to be seen. This happens usually in the month of September and is absolutely gorgeous.

2.     In autumn, the Persimmon leaves turn a beautiful yellow, orange, brown and gold, it’s such a beautiful warm backdrop for family photos, engagement photos or even baby and newborn photos.  This usually happens around the month of May, and is just breathtakingly beautiful.

Due to mother nature and changing weather this can change, so definitely get in touch with the orchards before you go to find out if the blossoms have arrived.

The best time to go is during the week as on weekends it can get pretty busy with clients and professional photographers. But don’t worry the orchards are pretty big so you should be able to claim your spot and get some beautiful photos.

I had the pleasure meeting some lovely families this year in the blossoms, from little babies to even a surprise proposal, I had no idea it was happening and felt so privileged to be a witness to this special moment.

I only release a few limited spots in September and May, so do get in touch if you’d like to book in for one of these spectacular sessions in the blossoms in September or in the Autumn leaves in May.

Follow my instagram and facebook to be the first to see my mini sessions availability or send me an email expressing your interest to be sure to not miss out.

Can’t wait to hear from you,

Sara xx

Top spots in Perth for Family Photos

When you’re looking for outdoor locations for your family photo session or maternity photoshoot, where do you start, where are the best locations in Perth that aren’t too crowded, windy at sunset and have the right feel?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered, with some great options and hidden little gems! I like to give my clients a couple of different look/options.

Beach/Sand dunes at sunset

I love the beach, it makes me sing and it’s my happy place. And at sunset there is nothing better. The light is at its most golden and magical.

With endless miles of beaches in Perth I’ve started with the easiest. There are so many options for amazing beaches in Perth, from City Beach down to Leighton beach and far beyond, these are all great options. Around Cottesloe there are great little rocky alcoves if that’s the look you love. but what about the Fremantle doctor at sunset? (Perth is known for this: strong winds coming in most afternoons), do not necesarily make for great pictures.  Hair flying around at all angels etc etc....

A few tricks that I use to combat the Fremantle doctor is.... firstly, I chose a beach that has ample width with sand dunes at the back. The sand dunes help to create some good shelter from the wind and also provide some beautiful natural shade which is great in wide open spaces. Secondly if we are in the wind I position my mum so that she is facing the wind and her dress and hair fly back and this can look very pretty, no need for fans use what you have around you to make a great picture.

Meadow, Paddock

This is a really pretty look. The yellow of the dried grass paddock reflects a beautiful yellow and golden light and at sunset this is amplified. It feels as if we are in the countryside, it’s serene, peaceful and magical, and you could be right in the middle of Perth, no one would ever know. There are many great options for this. There are so many parks around Perth with wild grassy areas just waiting to be captured. For example, take a look at Perry's paddock in Wannerroo. This a beautiful location, with wild paddock and even a little ruin of an old cottage which can be used as a different look on the same location.  I’m giving away secrets now so take note! 😀

Forrest/Park

I love the Forrest look as it’s so beautiful with the light shining through the leaves and looks great at any time of year.

Again, we are spoilt for choice in Perth. One of the best things about Perth is all of the natural and beautiful outdoor areas we have, large parks like Kings, Hyde etc... and national parks just on the outskirts of the city and very accessible. I like to go for more of the wild look, Whiteman Park is full of endemic vegetation to Australia and is completely wild looking. If you’re looking for another kind of Forrest look like very straight pine trees, which is so unique, we could choose for example the Wanneroo Pines, a great little piece of serenity and such a strong look also.

I’m here to navigate you through all our options and if you have a particular look you’re looking for I love to go and scout out new locations.

Hope this little article helped and do get in touch!

 Much love,

Sara

Maternity Photography Perth

With the gorgeous Perth beach as a backdrop and the sun glistening low in the sky, we headed off to our motherhood family sunset shoot in Leighton beach.  Georgie a couple of weeks before her due date was looking gorgeous and wearing a lovely textured linen dress.  I have to say sunset shoots are my favourite, I had actually forgotten how much I love them.  This was my first sunset shoot since moving to Perth and having my second baby boy.  I was a little worried about the wind and the Fremantle Dr (which comes in most afternoons), but we had a beautifully calm day and the water was warm when we dipped our toes in.  It was just magical! And it just reminded me why I do what I do.  It’s my happy place….I love the beach, the sand dunes, the ocean and sound of the waves and the LIGHT!! Sunset light is just the most beautifully warm and glistens through the grass, creating shafts of light.  Georgie and Nick were just so authentic and relaxed and we created lots of fun moments, connection in such a beautiful way. Thanks so much guys, and can’t wait to meet your new addition! 🌟
